TCP View is one of my “must have” utilities. I use this quite often to watch connections or for trouble shooting. Everyone should have this on their computer. It is one of the best security tools you can use. TCP View will instantly show you who is connected to you and who you are connected to. If you see something unusual in the list, you should check into it. I would recommend for most usage to uncheck the “show unconnected endpoints” for any troubleshooting purposes. This will then show only the current connections happening, you can watch them connect and disconnect as they happen.

Using Picasa to organize digital photos.

One of my favorite tools I use often is called ColorPic. It is especially useful for web design. If you see a color you like, you can grab it and save it as a paint chip. Just hover your mouse over any color on any part of you screen. I’ve used this program for a long time and has become one of my favorites. This is a must-have for any web designer. Yes it is FREE.

The perfect website monitoring program I’ve used for windows. Does everything needed and nothing more. Enter your URL’s to be checked, and choose to be notified by email if you’d like. Also writes events to a log file for reference. (believe me, this comes in handy when dealing with your webhost). I also like how I can enter a stable website (like google, or yahoo) to check first, for the presence of a working internet connection. This helps to prevent false positives (or postives falses? huh?). There is a lite version and a full version, both are free. The full version runs as a serivce so it will start working even if you are not logged into your workstation.

This is a handy little program for testing and troubleshooting. Enter a port to listen on and it will show incoming connections to that port. This can be useful if you are trying to setup connectivity through a firewall or a router. This could also be used as a secuity tool to make it appear you are running a service on a standard port, by having the tool respond, while the sevices is really running on a different port.

This is a handy little piece of software that I wrote. The purpose was to have quick way to move files off a digital camera. Some of the nice features are:

• Automatically create a folder named for the current date.
• Remembers source and destination locations.
• One click transfer
• Click to delete the source files when done.
